KIT GENESIS 〰️

Melbourne-based alt-indie artist Kit Genesis is set to unveil their highly anticipated debut EP, ‘Romanticism’, on October 9, 2024. The EP explores the intimate journey of self-love, queer identity, and the complexities of modern romance, wrapped in a sonic tapestry that shifts between delicate ballads and gritty, immersive indie rock.

‘Romanticism’ is the culmination of Kit’s deeply personal journey, crafting a body of work that reflects their experiences with love, identity, and self-discovery. Each track brings a unique story to life—from the vulnerability of queer love in Pride to the fiery excitement of Explode at the Thought, Kit invites listeners to explore the whirlwind emotions that come with fully embracing who they are.

“I’m relieved to finally share ‘Romanticism’ with everyone,” Kit explains. “This project feels like a true reflection of where I’m at. I’m grounded, more comfortable in my body, and proud of the stories I’ve put into the world through this music.”

The title track, ‘Romanticism’, paints a vivid picture of finding a sense of home in someone and being consumed by the early stages of love. With heartfelt lyrics and lush production, the song captures the euphoria of building a future with someone while feeling safe, seen, and completely whole. The accompanying music video, directed by Wheeler Maurer, shot by Alan Hopkins and choreographed by Co-Exist dance collective, encapsulates the whirlwind nature of love through dynamic movement and the homely setting of a Thornbury share house.

The EP also includes the standout track, ‘The Fire’ channels a 2000s indie rock vibe, a nod to Kit’s musical roots, while tracks like ‘Pride’ reflect on the bittersweetness of queer love and heartbreak, and most recent single ‘Explode at the Thought’, which brings a seductive edge with ambient guitars and flirty lyrics that capture the thrill of attraction.

With each release, Kit Genesis has continued to build momentum, receiving airplay on Triple J, PBS, and editorial support from platforms like Spotify’s New Music Friday Australia and Apple Music’s Indie & Chill playlists. Kit’s journey from their previous project as Tess Hannah to embracing their trans/non-binary identity under Kit Genesis has allowed them to explore a more authentic sound—one that resonates deeply with fans.

“This EP is a love letter to queer identity and self-expression,” Kit says. “It’s a celebration of the highs and lows that come with falling in love, learning to love myself, and discovering what it means to be fully seen.”

To celebrate the release of ‘Romanticism’, Kit Genesis will be performing a special EP launch show on November 17, 2024 at The Gasometer, featuring special guests and a night of queer celebration. The event promises to bring Kit’s intimate and energetic live performance to life, giving fans the chance to experience the EP in full and will see Kit perform two regional shows in Victoria.
